Citizen Watches Ambassador Looking Forward to Olympics
Belgian tennis player and Citizen Watches Ambassador Kim Clijsters is hoping to recover from injury in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games
[UKPRwire, Wed Mar 21 2012] This summer, London will feature two top rank tennis tournaments in little over a month and Citizen Watches Ambassador Kim Clijsters is hoping for a full recovery from her recent injury in time to compete in both.
The 2012 Olympics will bring the British capital an additional top-flight tournament to sit alongside the traditional Wimbledon Fortnight as the world’s top professionals line up for the chance to win a Gold medal.
The 2008 Olympic tournament in Beijing saw Elena Dementieva claim the gold medal in the women’s single tournament and Rafael Nadal take the Men’s honours. The Olympic event will take place from late July, little more than a month after the annual Wimbledon Grand Slam event. Both events will form part of both the ATP and WTA Tours and take place at the South West London venue.
One star of the circuit looking forward to the tournament is former world number 1 Kim Clijsters. The 28-year-old Citizen Watches ambassador sat out last weekend’s BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells as she continues her rehabilitation from a twisted ankle suffered at the Australian Open. The break is not the first for the Belgian. The Citizen Watches wearing player returned to the court in 2009 after a two year hiatus where she gave birth to her daughter.
Since her return to the professional game, Clijsters has become known as something of a grass court specialist, preferring the playing surface to the more usual clay courts. The opportunity to play two tournaments in one year on one of the sports best-known grass courts is believed to be behind her decision to spend longer on her recovery from injury. It is not yet known if she will compete at the upcoming French Open at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, the world’s premier clay court tournament beginning in late May.
