[UKPRwire, Wed Sep 30 2009] Tumbling house prices and reduced access to mortgages has caused a fundamental shift in British homeowner’s behaviour as they begin to adapt to the current market conditions. As a result, homeowners are searching for new ways to add value to their property and create space which will allow them to stay put while still meeting the demands of an ever changing and evolving lifestyle.

Richard Milbourn, National Home Improvement Show exhibition director, believes the lack of available mortgage credit coupled with house price falls of more than 15 per cent, has caused British homeowners to rethink their options. Consequently, the home improvement market is flourishing with mortgage lenders reporting a 50 per cent rise in loans taken out last year to pay for renovations, which has been valued at over £11 billion.

Research conducted by The National Home Improvement Show identifies a demand for an exhibition which focuses purely on home ‘improvers’ and offers practical advice and solutions to help people make the right home renovation decisions.

Mr Milbourn says: “While home improvement has always been popular and had a dedicated following on television, the creation of space and value has become a necessity for many home owners as they aim to make their home marketable or liveable.

“There are a variety of reasons to create more space and renovate including the need to accommodate a growing family, the desire to entertain more at home, installing eco friendly and money saving products or creating value to counter dropping house prices or negative equity.”

The exhibition will be the UK’s largest event for people looking to add space and value to their home, will provide visitors with the resources to access advice and support through its exhibitors, live expert forums and practical how to sessions.

The National Home Improvement Show will take place at Earl’s Court, London from 2-4 October 2009. For more information visit www.improveyourhomeshow.co.uk.
