SANDRA HITS THE RIGHT BEAT FOR POLICE VIDEO
As allegations against police officers hit a record high in England and Wales, a young Derbyshire filmmaker is helping the local force to tackle the forthcoming changes to complaints procedures.
[UKPRwire, Thu Nov 20 2008] As allegations against police officers hit a record high in England and Wales, a young Derbyshire filmmaker is helping the local force to tackle the forthcoming changes to complaints procedures.
Figures for England and Wales show there were 48,280 allegations made by the public in 2007/08 - an increase of 5% on the previous year – but in December 2008 all forces will be introducing a new process for managing police complaints, which encourages learning and development by individual officers in less serious cases.
And in Derbyshire, the Constabulary has called on Sandra Harrison of Revival Studios to produce an engaging piece of film to get the message across to its 2,000 officers and staff, with some of the stars of the film being beat officers themselves.
DCI Andy Sproson, who is the Project Manager for the Constabulary, said: “Changes in some legislation can be pretty dry so we needed to attract attention and demonstrate the real relevance of the changes. We also need to get the same clear message to all of our 2,000 plus officers and police staff over the coming months.
“I’m very pleased with what we’ve achieved. We need well informed, well briefed officers and I’m sure this film is going to be a popular way of doing the job.”
Sandra Harrison, managing director of Revival added: “We’ve done quite a bit of work with the criminal justice sector over recent years so we were able to use that experience to draw out the enthusiasm of the officers and encourage them to take part, which has helped to make this into something special for the force.”
