EMERALD LAUNCHES WEBEX ONLINE TRAINING FOR EMERALD DATABASES
Leading international journal publisher in the library and information science, and management fields, Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, has announced that free online training demonstrations through WebEx technology will now be available to users of Emerald databases. Emerald has invested in the new technology as part of its Emerald Librarian Toolkit initiative launched in November 2005.
[UKPRwire, Mon Feb 13 2006] The Emerald Librarian Toolkit is a series of free guides which is designed to help librarians to better market the Emerald electronic full text, reviews and abstracts to their faculty and student user base, and to encourage optimum use of services through demonstrating ease of access and quality of the material available on the Emerald database. The toolkit comprises modules ranging from training users to monitoring usage and promoting Emerald within the institution. It is available online (www.emeraldinsight.com/librariantoolkit) and in hard copy.
Emerald’s Head of Corporate Communications, Gill Crawford, explains, “The new online training is ideal for librarians who don’t have the time to travel to a face-to-face meeting; and it also saves money on travel costs. The training works like a teleconference where we can share our database and desk top applications online; and it can be arranged on a one-to-one or group basis, meaning that we can easily cater for the whole range of users, from those who need advanced training to those who require an introductory session.
“As part of this launch, we have already conducted 11 sessions with customers around the world and we have a further 50 signed up to be conducted over the next two months.”
Librarians who wish to receive the WebEx training should contact Emerald’s Usage Development Manager, Carol Robertson on email@example.com or 01274 777700. Users receive an introductory email from Emerald with some simple instructions, then log-on to their session through their normal internet browser and talk to Emerald’s trainer using a ordinary telephone connection. Call charges are billed to Emerald. Sessions typically last 60 minutes and cover an introduction to the database, along with specific focus on new features and support resources that are available to library staff and library users, including Library Link for librarians, and the Literati Network for those who are current or prospective authors of scholarly papers.
The new training solution means that it can be tailored to each institution’s needs, whether they require: one-to-one training; a group in an e-classroom; remote users joining the session from different locations; or a combination of a group in an e-classroom along with remote users from other sites.
The training is currently available in English and Spanish.
