Audit figures produced by BPA Worldwide have revealed that Zaman, one of Turkey’s largest daily newspapers, has one of the highest circulations of a national newspaper in Europe. Its circulation is predominantly paid subscriptions and significantly the subscriber base ranks amongst the highest in the continent.
[UKPRwire, Tue Jul 10 2007] Audit figures produced by BPA Worldwide have revealed that Zaman, one of Turkey’s largest daily newspapers, has one of the highest circulations of a national newspaper in Europe. Its circulation is predominantly paid subscriptions and significantly the subscriber base ranks amongst the highest in the continent.
A BPA initial audit ending January 2007 has confirmed Zaman as having 583,043 subscriptions out of a total weekday circulation of 618,697 and a Sunday circulation of 681,915. This figure can be compared with latest available data for The Daily Telegraph in the UK - 338,774 subscriptions from a total circulation 894,258, France’s Le Monde with 183,612 subscriptions from a total circulation of 355,017, Germany’s Süddeutsche Zeitung with 303,756 subscriptions from a total circulation of 448,119, Neue Zurcher Zeitung in Switzerland with 123,758 for a total circulation of 151,112) or El Pais in Spain’s 432,204 total circulation.
In addition to Zaman, BPA has also completed its first audit of Aksiyon, a news weekly magazine from the same publisher but sold separately across Turkey. The BPA audit reported a total circulation of 32,307 for Aksiyon, the majority of which was also subscription-based. Some 7,687 copies were sold via news stands.
The newspaper’s parent company, The Feza Gazetecilik A.S, appointed BPA Worldwide because it “wanted to be assured it was offering both domestic and international advertisers a globally-recognised audit standard”.
“With media owners in Turkey competing for a share of advertising spend from large, multi-national advertisers, there is an advantage to media owner and advertising client for providing clear, comparable data audited to a uniform global standard,” commented Stuart Wilkinson, BPA Worldwide Director for EMEA. “In confirming the extent of Zaman’s subscriber base, these figures provide advertisers and their agencies with the detailed information they need to make informed buying decisions in this large and rapidly developing market.”
