NHC Launch Simply Telecare To Help Local Authorities To Deliver Enhanced Care For Older People
Leading telecare providers and specialists in the housing sector help local authorities benefit from Government grants to improve levels of health and social care for older people and support independent living
[UKPRwire, Mon Jan 09 2006] The Northern Housing Consortium (NHC) in association with leading telecare provider Tunstall have launched Simply Telecare, a free-of-charge telecare advisory service designed to help local authorities and housing associations maximise the Government's Partnerships for Older People Projects (POPP) and Preventative Technology Grant (PTG).
Simply Telecare has been designed to provide assistance to member local authorities and housing associations in all aspects of telecare planning, implementation and management, in order to enhance levels of health and social care delivered to older and vulnerable people.
The POPP and PTG funding will provide local authorities and council-based partnerships with £140m over two years to deploy innovative technology to transform community services and support independent living.
Simply Telecare will assist authorities in developing preventative and sustainable solutions which will offer long-term, low-level models of care, supporting older people in their own homes and helping to avoid the spiral of decline which can lead to hospital or residential care admission.
Partners will benefit from the NHC's experience in the housing and telecare sectors, with valuable business planning available to help identify and secure funding. Custom-developed software is also available to local authorities which have secured funding to help them to assess a client's needs and provide the most appropriate care solution.
In addition, an OJEU-tested procurement service assists members to purchase or lease equipment and services, and innovative supply solutions ensure that services can be deployed rapidly and that the right sensors are available without undue financial investment.
NHC Simply Telecare Development Manager Tim Checketts said: " The UK is home to some of the most advanced social healthcare projects in Europe, with community alarms and telecare supporting older people and enabling them to live safely and securely at home for longer, reducing avoidable admissions to residential care and hospital.
"We want to expand this model of care further - Simply Telecare is designed to support NHC members in developing a proactive and preventative approach to care provision and ensure they benefit from the £140m allocated by the Government to the development of sustainable, person-centred care. "
The first Simply Telecare event will take place on 14 February 2006 in York, and will help local authorities and council-based partnerships to make strategic investment decisions for the provision of long term, sustainable care.
