EUR71k Dormant Accounts Funding For Ennis RAPID Area
Dormant Accounts funding of 70,784 euro is being allocated to the Ennis RAPID Area.
[UKPRwire, Tue Dec 15 2009] Welcoming the announcement from the Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Minister of State Tony Killeen T.D. noted that the funding allocation would go directly to three community-based projects dealing with disadvantage in the Ennis area.
The Clare Deputy said that significant funding is being allocated towards two separate projects at Scoil Criost Ri in Cloughleigh.
He continued: “46,344 euro will be used to engage tutors to implement the objectives of the Education Working Group Strategic Action Plan, as well as purchase equipment and the Incredible Years programme. Meanwhile, 17,937 euro is being provided for the construction of a playground in the school to advance the second strategic objective of the Education Working Group Strategic Action Plan.”
Minister Killeen stated that an additional 6,503 euro is being provided to Clare Local Development Company for the purchase of assistive equipment for older people in the RAPID area.
The three Ennis projects are among 148 nationwide tackling social and economic disadvantage in RAPID areas. A total of 550 projects have been allocated funds so far this year.
According to Minister of State Killeen: “Disbursements from the Dormant Accounts Fund target three broad categories of persons: those who are economically or socially disadvantaged, those who are educationally disadvantaged and persons with a disability. This spending goes directly to projects dealing with disadvantage and these allocations provide significant benefit to the people who need it most in our communities”.
RAPID (Revitalising Areas by Planning, Investment and Development) is a focussed programme for the development of the 51 most disadvantaged areas in the country. For more see www.pobail.ie.
