Charnwood Borough Council Successfully Meets Government Requirements for Reporting on Anti-Social Be

Vantage Technologies’ Sentinel ASB helps council to monitor and tackle ASB more effectively and meet Home Office goals following Government drive for a co-ordinated approach

[UKPRwire, Wed Sep 05 2007] Charnwood Borough Council has reported on the success of its pioneering approach in tackling anti-social behaviour, becoming the first local authority in Leicestershire to meet Home Office requirements for reporting on ASB.

Using Sentinel ASB, a web-based reporting tool developed by Vantage Technologies, Charnwood was able to provide a full response to a request for data on recorded ASB incidents in the Borough, successfully delivering statistics on the 15 Home Office classifications of anti-social behaviour to central Government.

Sentinel ASB has allowed the Council to integrate the skills and resources of various agencies within the Borough, enabling Council officers to share information more effectively for a co-ordinated, multi-agency approach to the reduction of incidents of anti-social behaviour.

Key partners including Leicestershire Police, Youth Offending Services and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are working together with Charnwood on Sentinel ASB. The tool allows partners to share information about ASB incidents with other agencies within the Borough quickly and effectively.

Using Sentinel has ensured all ASB incidents in Charnwood are collated, reported more accurately and managed more effectively. Hotspots for anti-social behaviour have been identified and targeted, meaning proactive and preventative measures can be taken.

The accurate reporting Sentinel facilitates has allowed the Council to identify a definite relationship between the types of ASB such as vandalism or harassment and prejudices that trigger such acts. This has better equipped the partners to tackle any instances of ASB and introduce preventative measures.

It has been extremely beneficial to all agencies in the Borough, especially Leicestershire Police, who use it for in-depth analysis of ASB cases.”

With Sentinel the process of reporting and monitoring complaints and instances of ASB within Charnwood is more streamlined, reducing duplication and unnecessary administration, in turn increasing efficiency.

Charnwood’s initiative contributes to a Government drive to implement a nationwide system to monitor and report instances of ASB, in order to evaluate effectively its anti-social behaviour campaigns.

Prior to Sentinel’s deployment each agency within the Borough had its own in-house reporting system. However, the systems were simplistic and labour-intensive, information wasn’t automatically shared and incidents were often duplicated. This led to inaccuracies in reporting and inefficient handling of ASB cases.

Vantage developed the system in collaboration with Charnwood and Sentinel has been flexible enough to meet the requirements and adhere to the specifications outlined by the Council. The level of access granted to specific agencies within the Borough can be controlled locally, meaning sensitive data is kept secure.

The password-protected, browser interface has allowed non-regular users to access and navigate the system without difficulty. The system’s in-built search and reporting tools have enabled users to access relevant information, and monitor incidents categorised by time, type, place and offender detail, this information aids both enforcement and counter offending programmes.
