Models Direct Love Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge

[UKPRwire, Sun Feb 28 2010] Models Direct love ethical and eco-friendly clothing, that’s why the modelling agency was really excited to hear about Livia Firth’s red-carpet challenge. As she attends the many awards ceremonies and premieres with her husband Colin Firth, she has made it her mission to only wearing ethical dresses and accessories, recording her difficulties and accomplishments on her Vogue blog.

So, where did it all begin? “A few people have asked how I got into ethical fashion,” writes Livia on her blog. “I have a long-term interest in sustainable design and became persuaded that – with some ingenuity and support – designers could design products for life rather than landfill.”

“I’ve also worked on documentary films that I would broadly term ‘social justice’,” she continues, “and accompanied Colin on events for Fairtrade, so things like the issue of cotton began to interest me.”

What really spurred her on was a trip to Bangladesh which she took with Lucy Siegle, the woman behind the green carpet challenge. Livia was appalled by the supposedly high standard working conditions in a factory producing clothes for the western world.

So far Livia has looked stunning at the prestigious events. However, Models Direct’s favourite dress has to be a Christiana Couture wedding gown, glammed up to Hollywood standards with a stylish black ribbon tied around the waist, worn at the Golden Globe Awards in LA.

“The re-purposed Christiana Couture wedding dress was a huge success in the sense that I don’t think I’ve ever had so many compliments for a dress in one night,” Livia states on the blog. “But people here do not seem to understand the concept of ethical fashion – they loved the dress but when I revealed the origin they sort of switch off as if it’s not cool anymore because it was once a wedding dress.”

With premieres of Tom Ford’s A Single Man, and husband Colin being nominated for so many awards, Livia has certainly been kept busy. Models Direct think she’s doing a great job at showing that sustainable and ethical fashion doesn’t have to be frumpy or dull and hope that she continues with this project beyond the stylish events.
