Edinburgh’s ‘We Will Rock You’ is the Hottest Theatre Ticket in the UK
According to figures from leading theatre ticket comparison website SeatChoice.com, there are currently more searches for tickets to the touring version of the Queen musical We Will Rock You at the Playhouse Theatre Edinburgh than for any other show in the UK, including all of the top West End productions.
[UKPRwire, Fri Dec 04 2009] According to figures from leading theatre ticket comparison website www.SeatChoice.com, there are currently more searches for tickets to the touring version of the Queen musical We Will Rock You at the Playhouse Theatre Edinburgh than for any other show in the UK, including all of the top West End productions.
Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych Theatre, London has dominated ticket search requests via SeatChoice.com during 2009. However, demand for tickets to see We Will Rock You, the Ben Elton penned musical featuring the songs of Queen, in Edinburgh have overtaken all of the big West End of London shows including Oliver! and Hairspray and has removed Dirty Dancing from the number one spot for the first time this year.
We Will Rock You opened at the Edinburgh Playhouse on the 4th of November and runs until the 9th of January 2010. Tickets range in price from £15.00 to £40.00.
Another surprise entry into the top three most searched for shows in the UK is White Christmas at The Lowry in Salford. This new staging of the classic Irving Berlin musical opened on the 27th of November and runs until the 9th of January 2010. Tickets range in price from £22.00 to £37.50.
Robert Iles, founder of www.SeatChoice.com said: “Dirty Dancing has ruled the roost in 2009 as our hottest ticket but it looks like We Will Rock You in Edinburgh has knocked them off their perch for a while. It’s great to see so much demand for productions outside of London. No one could have predicted that shows in Edinburgh and Salford would end up in the top three most sought after tickets in the UK in the run up to Christmas but clearly regional theatre is thriving!”
Other interesting observations from SeatChoice.com’s research include:
• Tickets to the opera have consistently been the most expensive. For example, top price tickets to La Boheme running from the 19th of December to the 11th of January 2010 at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden cost from £150.00 to £195.00 each – mind you, you can still find a really good deal to most operas and ballets. The Tsarina’s Slippers is doing very well and there’s always a good uptake of Nutcracker tickets around Christmas.
• Surprise high climber this week has been Cesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer who is touring the UK in 2010.
• As usual, Saturdays in December are proving very popular, as is the immediate post-Christmas period
• Theatre vouchers are proving a very popular gift this Christmas and are available from a number of suppliers.
SeatChoice.com conducts real-time searches of theatre box offices and over 20 ticket outlets including leading ticket agents such as Encore, Ticketmaster and Keith Prowse as well as specialist theatre break agents and secondary ticket suppliers such as Seatwave and Viagogo.
SeatChoice.com displays the ticket face value, the available discount, any applicable booking fees and the total cost of the tickets for each ticket supplier as well as displaying which suppliers don’t have tickets for that performance.
