[UKPRwire, Fri Jun 08 2007] Gordano School in Portishead, North Somerset, has put itself at the forefront of e-learning by installing the TALMOS BRITANNICA learning platform, an online teaching and learning tool that enables teachers and pupils to access class resources anytime and anywhere.
Gordano School is working to meet the Government’s target to introduce ‘personalised learning’ across the UK by 2008. The Government is investing £40 million in learning platforms which will allow schools to tailor the curriculum and teaching methods to meet the individual needs of young people. By installing TALMOS BRITANNICA, an exclusive combination of TALMOS, Azzurri Education’s market-leading lesson planning and learning platform and Encyclopaedia Britannica’s online reference material, Gordano School – a secondary school with 1,702 students – is making positive steps towards accomplishing this target.
Mr Silverthorne, Head Teacher at Gordano School said, “We’re delighted to be one of the first schools in the country to make use of the Government’s £40 million learning platform funding. Implementing TALMOS BRITANNICA will help us to meet targets to introduce ‘personalised learning’ by 2008. To share our experiences we have invited Head Teachers from across the county to visit Gordano School to see for themselves the significant impact this new technology and has had on our students’ learning experience.”
TALMOS BRITANNICA benefits from content organised by teachers for teaching purposes, excellent material from the world’s most trusted source and a secure learning environment for classroom and home use. Teachers using the service will be able to create lesson plans with ease and search the full range of Encyclopædia Britannica’s online databases for learning modules, text aligned to the curriculum, images and interactive content.
Steve Cowley, Divisional Director, Azzurri Communications, added, “We’re delighted to see Gordano School has fully embraced TALMOS BRITANNICA and is already seeing an impact on teaching and learning. With access to Talmos’ unique curriculum tagging capability, teachers are already saving time on planning lessons by matching appropriate resources to strands of the curriculum and QCA Schemes of Work.”
Ian Grant, Managing Director, Encyclopædia Britannica, concluded, “The Encyclopædia Britannica includes the work of many of the world’s most distinguished scholars, edited into a readily accessible form. It is clear, it is current – its online database is constantly refreshed – and it is correct, providing all its users with a safe haven for confident learning. TALMOS BRITANNICA draws on this immense tradition and presents its content in a way that’s carefully formulated for today’s teachers and students.”
